The GT Zaskar An Old FriendWhich Still Packs A Punch
GT’s tough as nails, attitude-laden Zaskar has become, as one bike writer claimed, “first, true do-it-all hardtail.” The earlier Zaskar was noted for its chain devices and chunk forks. It became commonplace with other bike makers and was soon swallowed up as suspension became the flavour of time.Hardtails are now on the ascendancy. The Zaskar, price light and race-oriented, fun machine is now taking its place in top of the range BMX machines. This little beauty has been the classic all-rounder member of GT’s family for almost 25 years and this year’s model, the Elite didn’t disappoint with its rapidity and responsive ride, smooth frame, sticky tires and well-balanced weight handling. Perhaps a better fork could elevate the Elite to becoming a long distance trail bike, or marathon racer. One issue was the tires – ideal for lightweights, but for the heavier rider plus gear, the tires tend to be prone to puncture. Overall the negatives were on the light side and mainly subjective.Of all the reviews scanned the end result was good, rating 4.5 out of five. There a number of models to choose from – your nearest BMX specialist can advise you of the best model to suit your body specs, and your taste.
